How long does it take for a new concrete patio to cure?
While you can usually walk on your patio after 24 to 48 hours, concrete takes about 28 days to reach its full structural strength. We recommend waiting at least a week before placing extremely heavy items like large planters or hot tubs on the surface.
Will my concrete patio crack over time?
All concrete has a potential to crack due to the natural shifting of the earth. However, we minimize this risk by using high-quality reinforcement and proper base preparation. We also strategically place control joints—intentional grooves that tell the concrete where to crack if it must, keeping the cracks invisible and neat.
Can you pour a patio over an existing old one?
In some cases, yes. However, we usually recommend removing the old concrete. Pouring new concrete over an old, cracked slab can lead to “reflective cracking,” where the cracks from the bottom layer travel up through the new surface.
How do you handle drainage in Matthews' clay soil?
We prioritize grading. By ensuring a slope of at least 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from your home, we ensure that rainwater flows into your lawn or a designated drainage area, preventing puddles and foundation issues.
Is stamped concrete slippery when wet?
When properly installed with a non-slip additive in the sealer, stamped concrete is very safe. If you are building a pool deck, we can provide a specific textured finish to ensure maximum grip.
